What Took Me One Year To Build Is Now Yours For Free!

In this week’s blog, you will discover that I’m offering you a free gift that, in all honesty, I can’t believe I’m giving away. I realize that sounds like one of those disingenuous lines a salesperson uses as a way of applying reverse psychology to entice you to then “want the thing”. However, there simply isn’t any other way of saying it. Ironically, part of the reason I’m offering you this gift stems from a conversation I recently had with my ten year old daughter.
Each year, she approaches the task of writing her letter to Santa with the same amount of thought and care a doctoral student applies when crafting and eighty thousand word dissertation. Her arguments for receiving the maximum number of presents possible are well laid out with graphs, cited sources and pre-emptive rebuttals to any pushback that Santa might give. It’s for this reason that I felt compelled to slip this year’s letter into a secret folder, so that one day I can show her why our family was always on the brink of bankruptcy.
Now, before sending this note to the North Pole, she always asks me to proofread her tome, so that I can ascertain whether there is any further wordsmithing that could be done to increase the size of her upcoming payload. This year, I decided to try and offer a little wisdom about the true essence of the holiday, and that giving presents often brings greater joy than receiving them. As I’m sure you can imagine, this conversation left my daughter questioning my intellect, and wondering if she can truly ever trust me anymore.
Coincidentally, during the time of this latest lesson in life, I found myself facing the business idea of giving something away for free to those who either choose to sign up for my newsletter, or already have in the past. It felt nice to provide some sort of exchange to those who choose to follow my work, especially considering how long winded I can be. I figured the best thing to do would be to create a new offering from scratch, but then it was suggested that I give away something that I’ve already created. That “something” is called Toolbox 22.
My initial reaction to this suggestion was a hardy, “Hell no!”. Toolbox 22 is a suite of twenty-two resources that are designed to help people infuse deeper human connection into all facets of their professional and personal lives. Throughout my entire career, it’s one of the most robust and meaningful programs I’ve ever created, and it took me an entire year to build. And to be completely candid, I built it to be something I offered for sale, not free!
However, when I catch myself reacting this way, I try my best to understand where my feelings are coming from. In this case, I realized that it all came down to that classic battle between the illusion of scarcity and the reality of abundance. I could see that my scarcity mindset was worried that if I gave this away for free, then what reason would people have to hire me to help them build their own organizational human connection ecosystems? Well, after giving that a concentrated amount of thought, I was reminded that even when you give away one beautiful slice, there is still so much more pie to go around.
To my surprise, I realized that I was facing the exact same lesson I was trying to teach my daughter. It was that age old wisdom of knowing that eating an entire pie alone pales in comparison to sharing it with others. Was that Socrates who said that? Maybe Jesus? Either way, my heart began to soften, and I felt myself moving away from thinking, “No way, I worked too hard on that, why should other people get it for free?” And I was left knowing that often in life, the hardest things to give away are usually those that others might need the most.
With that said, I have decided to give away my beloved Toolbox 22 to anyone who wants it. Within this gift, you will find 22 resources that will help you infuse heart based human connection into all aspects of your personal and professional life. Whether it’s in a meeting, on a sales call, while onboarding a new hire, all the way to conversations at the dinner table, Toolbox 22 provides resources that will dramatically increase your chances of connecting with others and making them feel seen. I’ve learned that the more you do that, the more you actively design a life filled with magic, opportunity and a whole lot more love.
And as I said to my daughter, that’s what it’s all about.
Claim your gift HERE. And in the spirit of giving, feel free to share it with others.
Much love,
Stuart
