Passion Pause
Connect because you can.
Intro
Oh boy, is that politically correct? Of course it is! Especially when we are talking about giving people the chance to connect on topics that matter the most! So what are we talking about exactly? We’re talking about getting a crew of colleagues together to talk about the things they are most passionate about. How fun is that? You could even invite clients, service providers, vendors and more!
It could happen over dinner out with the team, while enjoying a virtual lunch, or by carving out an hour at the beginning of the day. It’s up to you! Like we have mentioned countless times throughout the Tribe Certified Program, it’s all about being intentional with our actions. Build it, and they will come! Simply create a space and time where colleagues can come together to share their passions, and let the magic happen. And like any great moment of connection, as long as people are encouraged to ask great questions, it will be a meaningful experience for everyone.

How Does It Work?
There are many ways you can create a Passion Pause, so choose the one that works best for you.

Experience #1 - At The End Of A Meeting.

STEP #1 - Pause for passion at the end of your next meeting! Send a message to colleagues that you meet with regularly suggesting they add a little spice to the workday by looking for opportunities to have a Passion Pause at future meetings. To make life easier for you, we have provided a quick email that you can cut and paste to save yourself the time of having to think about what to say.

Hey there everyone,
You may have seen one of the resources offered within the Tribe Certified Program called The Passion Pause, which is designed to help us share things that are most meaningful to us with the rest of the team. I thought it could be a fun thing to try, which is why I’m reaching out to get things rolling.
The idea is pretty straight forward. At an upcoming meeting, one of us takes 5-10 minutes to share something we are currently passionate about with the rest of the group. It could be a cause that’s close to your heart, a major life goal, a hobby, a new language you are learning, etc. Whatever it is, this is our chance to learn more about what people care about and why. If this is something you’re game for, please send me a message, and we can start a list of those who will be sharing their passions in the near future.

STEP #2 - After getting responses from your colleagues, simply schedule 5-10 minutes at the end of an upcoming virtual/live meeting for someone to experience a Passion Pause. And when they are finished sharing, if there is time, open it up for the rest of the group to ask them questions. Then your job is done! With little effort, you just gave a colleague the opportunity to feel awesome, while giving everyone else the chance to connect with them on a deeper level. And don’t worry if your Passion Pause only lasts a few minutes, because those in the meeting will keep the conversation going with the person who shared long after that moment.

STEP #3 - Encourage your group to pick up the reins by inviting someone else to enjoy a Passion Pause at a future meeting they are conducting. You can even try to get someone to commit right there on the spot to sharing their own passion at the next meeting.
TIP: To gain momentum, you may have to ask a colleague that doesn’t often shy away from being in the spotlight to be your inaugural Passion Pause presenter. Otherwise, consider jumping into the deep end by going first. Once others see it in action, they will want to join in on the experience.

Experience #2 - Let's Have A Passion Party!

Wrapping up
Too many organizations make the mistake of thinking the personal life of an employee should not be discussed at work. While there are certain topics that should be avoided at all costs, there is no reason to believe that colleagues wouldn’t enjoy the opportunity to connect with others at work in a way that is authentic and meaningful to them.
Carving out time for a Passion Pause is the perfect way to create a sense of belonging and an overall deeper connection amongst the group. However, don’t just take our word for it. Try it out for yourself, and you will see exactly what we mean!
